More than 100 countries have a national law that prohibits the sale of all artificial nails, hair products and other artificial or synthetic materials, including those that are manufactured by or marketed by a company that manufactures or sells artificial nails or hair products, the World Health Organization said on Wednesday.
The World Health Organisation is also warning of the threat posed by the use of artificial nails in a way that may include the use or the imitation of artificial or natural nails or the use and imitation of natural nails and hair products.
A growing number of the artificial nails that are being sold on the black market include synthetic nails, synthetic hair and synthetic fibers.
These synthetic products are made from animal or plant materials and are often sold as natural alternatives to conventional nail products.
They include artificial nails made from hair and hair-like materials and hair clippings.
The products can be sold in bulk or in smaller packages.
